Tennis Superstar Demonstrates His Commitment to At-Risk Youth in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, September 26, Andre Agassi and a superstar line up of entertainers took to the stage at the fourth annual Grand Slam for Children to benefit at-risk youth organizations in Southern Nevada. The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation raised $3.285 million during this weekend's benefit which featured a sold-out concert, silent and live auctions, and VIP Dinner. The annual benefit -- held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena -- was created in 1995 to offer support and funding to beneficiaries of the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation.
More than 7,500 fans attended this year's concert gala which featured performances by Mick Fleetwood, Amy Grant, Dennis Miller, Stevie Nicks, Lionel Richie, and Robin Williams. Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster served as the musical coordinator for the fourth consecutive year. A surprise guest appearance was made by Grammy Award-winning singer Marc Cohn.
``Every year, I'm truly amazed at the level of dedication and support we receive from the community,'' said Agassi. ``We have truly exceeded all expectations and look forward to many more years of exciting fundraisers which will directly benefit less fortunate children in the Las Vegas community who truly deserve a chance for a better future.''
The evening began with a silent auction featuring an impressive list of items for guests of all tastes. Silent auction items included dining packages for connoisseurs of fine food, fabulous shopping sprees, autographed memorabilia donated by Andre Agassi, Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali, and Evander Holyfield, and, for the truly adventurous, a walk-on part for one person on ABC's Drew Carey Show or NBC's Friends.
More than 1,700 VIPs and corporate supporters attended a black-tie gourmet dinner and a special pre-party reception hosted by world renowned Chef Emeril Lagasse. Following dinner, Robert Earl, president and CEO of the Official All-Star Cafe and Jack Williams, vice president for American Airlines, hosted the live auction. The live auction boasted an incredible list of items including a Round of Golf with Arnold Palmer and Mark O'Meara on premier golf courses in Orlando, Florida, Bill Cosby's custom designed 1997 Infiniti Q45, an intimate dinner with Robin Williams at his restaurant in San Francisco, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy a private lunch with General Colin Powell in his offices in Washington D.C.
