Stevie Nicks' Trouble In Shangri-La Debuts At #5 On Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart

NEW YORK, May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Fans of Warner Brothers/Reprise recording artist Stevie Nicks have shown how passionate they are about the seminal rock chanteuse as her first studio album in nearly seven years, Trouble In Shangri-La, tops the charts this week, debuting at #5 on Billboard's coveted Top 200 Albums chart with 109,000 copies sold.

Marking Nicks' return to the solo spotlight, Shangri-La is chock full of her signature musical stylings and introspective lyrics. The album also features such superstar guest artists as: the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines, who appears for a duet on "Too Far from Texas"; Macy Gray, who backs Nicks on the gutsy soul track "Bombay Sapphires"; Sarah McLachlan, who graces the dreamy piano ballad "Love Is"; and Sheryl Crow, who adds her sultry voice and guitar to "Sorcerer."

Recently, Nicks performed "Fall From Grace," the first single from Trouble in Shangri-La, to a standing ovation during the 2001 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards in April, and has already begun rehearsals for a concert tour that's slated to kick off in late June.

VH1's Stevie Wonder: "Hear Music First

Stevie Nicks should be giving a big "thank you" to VH1 and it's 'Hear Music First" initiative, which has played a big part in Nick's new CD selling like hotcakes. VH1 and "Hear Music First" gave those who logged onto vh1.com a first crack at ordering "Trouble in Shangri-La" way back on April 16 and hearing tracks from the Nicks CD, which didn't hit stores until May 1.

VH1 says "Trouble in Shangri-La" has debuted at 109,000 units-about 4 times what record label Reprise expected, considering Nicks' last studio album, "Street Angel", sold 27,000 units the first week out in 1994. "Shangri-La" is now #5 on the Soundscan album chart and #1 on the internet sales chart. During the Hear Music First promotion, traffic to the vh1.com store nearly quadrupled, according to VH1.

Nicks got a sizable boost from VH1, which used Shangri-La to launch its Hear Music First pre-order service on VH1.com.

"The VH1 special and related promotion was helpful," Mayfield says. "It's hard to think of a better vehicle to reach her audience."

Destiny and Nicks could boost sales with the upcoming video for Bootylicious. Nicks will make a cameo in the third Survivor single, which features a sample of her 1981 hit Edge of Seventeen.

Meanwhile, veteran rock chanteuse Stevie Nicks staged a resounding comeback with her first new studio record in seven years, "Trouble In Shangri-La" (Warner). The Fleetwood Mac alumna's seventh solo LP debuted at No. 5 -- matching her best performance ever for "The Wild Heart" in 1983 [This is wrong - we know Bella Donna was #1] -- and sold a formidable 109,000 copies.
