Capes, flowing gowns, dark clothing and long blond hair define Paradise Valley songstress Stevie Nicks, aka Stephanie Lynn Nicks. She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and became one of its major songwriters and stars.

In 1981, she flirted with the idea of starting her own career and released Bella Donna, a solo album that sold 2 million copies. Rolling Stone magazine dubbed her “The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

Nicks’ 1981 image is perhaps the one best ingrained in the memories of the babyboomer generation. They are familiar with her shoulder-length, frizzled blond hair and youth, which exuded energy.

Nicks issued Street Angel in 1994, after leaving Fleetwood Mac in 1993. At 46, she wore her hair upswept; the clothes more tailored, the jewelry still present. That summer she promoted her sixth solo album with a tour, telling the Miami Herald that “You know, I think it is a good time in my life.” Street Angel had its roots in her hometown, with the help of (former Eagle) Bernie Leadon and (guitarist) Andy Fairweather Low.

Nicks, at 50 in the 1998 photo, gave a benefit concert for the Arizona Heart Institute. The long, tousled blonde hair is still striking against her dark, trademark gypsy-style dress. She performed at America West Arena during a year when she also rejoined Fleetwood Mac on a reunion tour and released the solo box set Enchanted.
