The name has changed, but the event is the same. In fact it's bigger than ever. WBMX-FM's annual "Fall Fest" on Boston Common, a free, two - day event over Columbus Day weekend featuring music food and family activities, has been renamed the "Mix Fest." Mix 98.5 will celebrate the change by assembling the most impressive musical lineup yet for the two - day party. Former Fleetwood Mac songstress Stevie Nicks (with full band), '90's hitmakers the Gin Blossoms, and multi-platinum hipsters the Spin Doctors headline the weekend roster of acts. Other performers slated to appear include Jewel, Amanda Marshall, Jann Arden, the Newsboys and the Hookers. Along with national recording acts, the Mix Fest also will feature local names as Joel Cage, Fat City, Eye to Eye and Division St. The lineup of acts has yet to be finalized. More bands and performers will be added to the bill during the next couple of weeks. But Stevie Nicks is expected to headline one day, while the Gin Blossoms will be featured the other. Hours for the festival, co-sponsored by the Boston Herald, are Saturday, Oct.12, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 13, from noon to 7 p.m. Though the Mix Fest is free and open to the general public, WBMX will request donations for the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County, a nonprofit organization to help protect abused children. For more information about Mix Fest, call (800) 649-3378 or listen to 98.5 FM.
