Mick and Lindsey were interviewed by BBC Radio One - Britain's biggest
national radio station - by DJs Mark Goodier and Mary-Anne Hobbs straight
after their performance on Monday, 9 February. However, Radio One is geared
specifically towards the under 25s age group and the tone of the
interview wasn't especially reverential ... more jokey than anything, but I
think Mick and Lindsey handled it quite well!!
Mary-Anne Hobbs: So, gents ... a Lifetime Achievement Award! That's
an incredible accomplishment isn't it? But does it make you feel like
geriatrics? (Laughs)
Mick: Mmmm ... Geriatrics? No it doesn't actually! To me, it's just a
really gratifying thing to have this sort of brought up in terms of the work
this band has done in the past and the present and ... er ...very
'un-geriatric' actually ... but (laughs reluctantly) I can accept your
comment ... I suppose!!
Mark Goodier: You've done a few songs on stage tonight and of course,
you've been touring in America, but it's a huge body of work isn't it ... er
... Lindsey to choose to peform from?
Lindsey: It is indeed! Er ... I think it's appropriate that we're
getting this this year on the heels of The Dance album, which is basically a
re-statement of a body of work and er ... I think the thing that keeps us
going is really not that so much as the new stuff, and it keeps us from
feeling too geriatric as well, I guess!
Mark Goodier: They're gonna keep coming back to that Mary-Anne!!
Mary-Anne Hobbs: Well, these are obviously energetic men! I've got
it all wrong! How are you planning to celebrate tonight?
Mick: The whole evening is just really good fun! I think there's a party
afterwards and there's probably people ... er ... that I will know. Dave
Stewart is one of them! I was at a very unfortunate Brit Awards about ten
years ago with him and ... er ... he was very helpful to me that night I
might add!!
Mark Goodier: We were going to mention that! (Laughs). You haven't been
back to the Brit Awards since! Any special memories? (Referring to Mick's
disastrous hosting of the Brit Awards in 1987!)
Mick: (Laughs) Terrible memories!! Tonight, there's no rollers ... you
know, the word things that I was supposed to read were all for the wrong
people, so I don't have any of that pressure tonight, thank God!!
Mary-Anne Hobbs: (Laughs) So you're not going to be hooking up with
Sam Fox (Mick's co-presenter in 1987) a little later on to discuss old
memories?
Mick: Maybe I am, if she's here ... bless her heart!!
Mary-Anne Hobbs: That's great! Thanks so much for talking to us
tonight anyway! Congratulations ... and you know whatever it is you decide
to do, be it crash out or go completely berserk at the party with your one
friend, I hope you have a fantastic time!
Lindsey & Mick: (Mumbled) Thanks!
