Tom Petty with Stevie Nicks 2006 - FAN REVIEWS

6/16/06 Bonnaroo Festival Manchester, TN

Emily
I was surprised when I saw the fan reviews page that there has yet to be any mention of Stevie being at Bonnaroo on June 16. Talk about an exquisite experience!!! For those who aren't familiar with Bonnaroo, it is a huge 3-day music festival, held annually in Manchester, Tennessee. The festival usually has a wide range of bands that fall within the classic rock, folk rock, southern rock, jam band, regae, and indie rock genre's, etc. This year's lineup included not only Tom Petty, but Bonnie Rait, Phil Lesh (of Grateful Dead fame), Damien Marley (Bob Marley's son), Blues Traveler, Beck, Radiohead, Les Claypool, Elvis Costello, Nickel Creek, Moe, My Morning Jacket, and numerous others. Bands I've seen there in years past (this was my fourth year) include The Dead, Bob Wier and Ratdog, Emmylou Harris, Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan, The Black Crows, The Allman Brothers Band, Neil Young, Ben Harper, James Brown, The Wailers, Joss Stone, Modest Mouse, Trey Anistasio, Robert Randolph, Jack Johnson, Liz Phair, Los Lonely Boys, Steve Winwood, John Prine, Allison Krauss and Union Station, and so many others that would be too numerous to list here.

It is important to understand that I have been listening to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks all my life (my parents were hippies) and I have been a huge Stevie fan since I was about 13 years old (I am currently one month shy of being 25). Fleetwood Mac and Stevie have always topped the list of my favorite bands and musicians... Stevie has basically been my hero since I was a little girl. ... and as huge of a fan as I am, my life has been so hectic lately (I just finished my Master's degree and will be starting my Doctorate in August) that I haven't been able to keep up with all the Stevie news and happenings and shows and such. The reason I'm telling all of this is to get across how utterly and completely and insanely nuts I went when she walked out on stage with Tom Petty at Bonnaroo. I had no idea she was going to be there. I was so stoked to be seeing Tom Petty for the first time anyway, and then, all of a sudden, I hear Tom Petty saying "...and then we noticed we had this little sister following us around. I'd like to introduce you to her. Her name is Stevie Nicks." And in that moment my Bonnaroo weekend went from 'Awesome' to 'Perfectly Magickal.' I was screaming and jumping up and down like a kid thats just gotten that pony for Christmas. I remember my brother (we have a tradition of going to Bonnaroo together) diving across our other friends that were with us and grabbing me in a huge hug and telling me how excited he was that I was getting to see Stevie Nicks at Bonnaroo and I was so excited that he was getting to see her for the very first time (I've actually seen Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac four other times, but my brother had never seen her). It was kind of funny because ever since we've been coming to the Bonnaroo festival, I've been saying how I would love to see Stevie perform there... and then there she was...

I don't think that there is any need to say that she was stunning and she and Tom gave an incredible performance. That goes without saying. I was really surprised to here them perform "Insider" together. I've only ever heard that song before as a not-very-good-quality demo and I felt like I was experiencing such a rare phenomenon to hear them perform that song together. That whole experience was, hands-down, one of the best surprises I've ever encountered. I have been on cloud nine for the past week and every one I know has heard about it numerous times. For anyone who is interested, there are photos of Stevie and Tom performing at Bonnaroo at www.bonnaroo.com. They performed on Friday night of the festival (the photos are divided by day).

Blessings,
~Emily~

First off I am Collin Brunson from Columbia,Tennessee and I am 17 years old. For all of you older people who do not know what Bonnaroo is it is the largest music festival in America. Bonnaroo is a four day festival on a 700 plus acre farm in rural Manchester,Tennessee and has been held every June since 2002. It is notorious for its hippie crowd and drug scene. This year was my first year in attending and I was amazed to find out Stevie was going to be there right after I bought my ticket. Stevie Nicks was with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers on Friday June 16th...however my Stevie Nicks experience at Bonnaroo started out the night before. Me and two friends of mine Grant and Mykel were seeing a band called dios (malos) while i was under a substance induced hallucinagenic state. While the band was playing I went into a trance/dreamlike state imagining that Stevie Nicks was performing and I think I was muttering Stevie Nicks and lyrics to Stop Draggin My Heart Around...its hard to explain because the details are fuzzy but I was wandering around the main concert venue walking thru the crowd and I cant remember much of it but I do remember snapping out of my trip and looking down and realizing I had no shoes on and more importantly looked around and was not where I was earlier with my friends and they were nowhere to be found. I ended up wandering around barefoot all night until the sun came up till I could find my friends again(part of the time a hottie from new orleans kept me company and helped me find where I was)...it was quite an experience. Now to the real stevie performance the next night on Friday...everyone was shocked when Tom introduced Stevie and a loud gasp was let out from the crowd...despite a text message sent out to all bonnaroo subscribers before the set saying bonnaroo says: Nicks!. Stevie was great and the first time I had seen her live. She did stop draggin my heart around, i need to know, insider, and backup and tambourine for a few other of toms songs. Bonnaroo loved stevie...i certainly did.....STEVIE IF YOU EVER READ THIS PLEASE PLEEAASSEE COME BACK TO BONNAROO NEXT YEAR!!! or anyone who reads this should come to Bonnaroo next year...Peace
