Three seventies staples received some good news this week--they're headed for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, and the Eagles were notified on Tuesday that they will be inducted during a ceremony in January. This came as especially good news for Fleetwood Mac, who became eligible in 1993 but have previously been turned down. Perhaps the success of their latest album and tour celebrating the twentieth anniversary of mega-seller Rumours changed some music-industry minds. Joel and the Eagles, on the other hand, were selected on their first time out. Artists are eligible for induction twenty-five years after the release of their first album. For the Eagles, who also recently staged a lucrative reunion tour, that was their eponymous 1972 album, which included the hits "Take It Easy," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and "Witchy Woman." Joel, who has recently admitted to being more fond of classical music than rock and roll, was up for induction based on his 1971 album Cold Spring Harbor, featuring "She's Got a Way." The fourteenth annual inductions into the Hall of Fame are scheduled for January 12 and are usually held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. A full list of inductees and the location of the ceremony are expected to be announced October 30.
