from Robert Sentinery's (editor) monthly column called BUZZ.
I'm not one to salivate over celebrities, but I saw someone the other day that I really wanted to meet. This person holds a special kind of esteem because she's a Phoenix girl who did very well for herself in the eyes of the world. But, how could I meet her without coming across as a star struck fan?
She's someone who helped to create the best selling record of all time. It held that position for many years until Michael Jackson's Thriller came along and bumped it to number two, where it remains. In case you haven't already guessed, the person I'm talking about is Stevie Nicks. And you'd be silly to deny her the rightful status as a rock & roll goddess. Even at her most melodramatic, the urgency of her voice packs an emotional wallop that will surely never be duplicated.
Go back and listen to Fleetwood Mac's Rumors and realize why this album which inadvertently documents the breakup of Nicks' marriage is one of the greatest of all times.
Musical styles are quickly consumed by ravenous pop culture. Great stars inevitably seem to fall from grace. Only now are people beginning to realize the impact Stevie Nicks has had on modern music. Both Hole and Smashing Pumpkins have covered her songs. Just wait, she will be avenged.
