LOS ANGELES, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The classic line-up of Fleetwood Mac -- Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks -- has reunited.
One of the most successful and influential bands of the rock era, Fleetwood Mac has signed to Reprise Records, where the band's most successful line-up originally convened. The group is currently rehearsing for an exclusive MTV performance this May, with air dates to be announced soon. The performance will include many of their best-known hits, along with three new selections. This historic event, recorded live in Los Angeles, will subsequently be released as an album on Reprise.
After an absence of over a decade, the new album marks the return of Fleetwood Mac in its best-known and most popular incarnation. "Although there were turbulent times," remarks Mick Fleetwood, "there has been an emotional bond between us. It made the whole process of getting back together happen very organically. We've kept in touch over the years and worked on various projects together. It was all very natural and very comfortable. I know I speak for the rest of the band when I say that this is just another step in an on-going creative collaboration." Added Lindsey Buckingham, "It's great to know the magic is still there."
The group's new album will be released in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of "Rumours", which, upon its release in 1977, established Fleetwood Mac as an international phenomenon. It went on to become one of the best selling albums of all time, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide and a unbroken record of thirty-one consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard album chart.
Aside from a new album and an MTV exclusive, an extensive tour is currently in the planning stages, marking the first time this quintessential Fleetwood Mac line-up has appeared on the concert stage since 1982.
Originally formed as a blues band in 1967, Fleetwood Mac achieved super group status in 1975 with the Reprise Records release of Fleetwood Mac, featuring the hit singles "Over My Head," "Rhiannon" and "Say You Love Me." It was followed, in 1977, by the above mentioned "Rumors," an album that defined an era with a string of smash hits including "Go Your Own Way," "Don't Stop," "You Make Loving Fun" and "Dreams." "Rumors" would go an to win an Album of the Year Grammy and remain on U.S. charts for over 130 weeks.
The group followed the success of "Rumours" with such albums as the ambitious "Tusk," "Fleetwood Mac Live," "Mirage" and "Tango In The Night" and hit singles that included "Sara," "Hold Me," "Little Lies," "Seven Wonders" and others. The line-up underwent several subsequent personnel shifts, with various members going on to record acclaimed solo albums, as well as working together in various combinations on selected projects, before reforming earlier this year for what is certainly one of the most eagerly-awaited reunions in music history.
